Rules Q&A
- Q: Now that Seven Stings Keep is legal, can I use the ability printed on the card, if my opponent has not lost a province, to cause him zero honor loss and than increase the loss with Yogo Honami?
A: No. You may use the ability, but there is no honour loss to be increased.
See here and here.
Please use the search function before posting. Alex Jones, "Seven Stings Keep And Yogo Honami", 16 Aug 2008 - Q: Hi. After using the search function, I wasn't able to find an answer to the following question:
Denounced on Stage: Political Limited: Target one of your Artisan or Courtier Personalities: For the rest of the turn, before each time a player loses Honor, increase the loss by 1.
Yogo Honami: Political Reaction: Before a player loses Honor, bow Honami: Increase the loss by 1.
Is the following scenario correct?
Let's assume denounced on stage has been played and Yogo Honami is in play. Let's also assume an initial honor loss of 2 has occurred. Denounced on stage will increase this to 3. Yogo Honami's reaction will increase this loss to 4 because her honor loss increase applies directly to the initial loss of 2 and is not a subsequent honor loss.
Thank you Rules Junta, -Az
A: That all appears to be correct. Both are increasing the original loss; neither is a new loss. Zen Faulkes, "Yogo Honami's reaction and Denounced on Stage:", 6 May 2008 - Q: Hi,
I apologize if the question has ever been answered, but I didn't find more than this : http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60441&p=773480&hilit=seppuku#p773480 which is about denounced on stage and seppuku, not about Yogo Honami and seppuku.
1) My initial question was about Yogo Honami. Let's say I use Uyeda on a dishonored personality. My opponent do the seppuku. So he reduces his honor loss to 1. Yet it is still an honor loss.
Can I react then with Yogo Honami to increase this honor loss ? Or does the term "reduce" implicitly means that the honor loss cannot be increased any more?
[*]Reaction: Any number of times per turn, before you lose Honor from an action that targeted or was performed by one of your Courtier or Samurai Personalities: He commits seppuku. If the seppuku destroyed him, reduce the Honor loss to one. [*]
[*]Political Reaction: Before a player loses Honor, bow Honami: Increase the loss by 1.[*]
2) When reading the post about denounced on stage, I can guess the difference is about timing, and the fact that the seppuku doesn't generate a new loss, but alters the original, and because the effect of denounced on stage can't be applied twice on the same loss. (it applies first on the original loss)
Yet, Honami and seppuku seem to have exactly the same timing. So I would say it can increase the altered loss (seppuku) Am I correct?
If not, could you please tell me what I've missed?
Thanks!
A: Nothing about the word "reduce" prohibits additional effects increasing the Honor Loss. If it instead imposed a "maximum" honor loss of 1, that would be different.
Seppuku and Honami's ability are both Reactions with the same timing trigger. After your opponent uses Seppuku he'll pass the opportunity to take Reactions to you and you can play Honami's Reaction to increase the loss by 1, making it a total of 2. Martin Lund, "Seppuku + Yogo Honami", 5 Mar 2008 - Q: and would it be increased by Denounced on Stage or Yogo Honami?
A: Yes, it can be increased by Denounced on Stage or Yogo Honami as these effects simply increase the loss and do not create a new loss. Doruk Özaydın, "Hidden Scandal", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: When I destroy a dishonored personality who's base personal honor is 0. Does he not lose any honor or is he considered to lose 0 honor in which this honor loss could be increased with cards like "Denounced on Stage" and "Yogo Honami"?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/The_Player#Family_Honor: "An Honor gain of 0 points is not considered a gain for things that check whether a gain happened. Likewise, an Honor loss of 0 points is not considered a loss for such things." Zen Faulkes, "Dishonor destruction and honor loss", 22 Oct 2007
