Rules Q&A
- Q: I have a question about Yogo Tjeki. Can I use him against an player who has less than his starting honour or is that considered to reduce his honour under his starting honour?
A: No. Reducing someone from one number that is underneath their starting honor to another number that is also underneath their starting honor is still reducing them below their starting honor. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 25th, 2003", 25 Jul 2003 - Q: 1) Scorpion player Bob attaches the Celestial Sword of the Scorpion to Yogo Tjeki. Scorpion player Freddy casts Masters Imprisoned on Tjeki. Freddy then attaches the Celestial Sword of the Scorpion to Kwanchai. Next turn, does Tjeki come back? If so, does he have the sword with him?
A: Yes, no. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 March 2003", 1 Apr 2003 - Q: In a message dated 9/27/02 11:14:36 PM Pacific Daylight Time, writes:

Has the Junta made a choice about this (it was in your September 5th rules post) ? :
<< [Subject = In time of War, and the honor gains being there but not active or something, like the cap on Matsu Domotai's Force] Now since honor gains do not vanish at the end of my turn, during my opponent's turn he use the basic Yogo Tjeki on me for a 2 pt Honor loss. My honor : A) Drops by 2 and goes to 18, or B) Drops by one since I still had one of those magical invisible "excess honor" points and I end up at 19 ?
If the answer is A), where did the excess honor point go, and why did they vanish at the end of my turn ?
Interesting point. I'll see what the Rules Team has to say. In Time of War does, in fact, work like stat maximums do. If you exceed the maximum, your Family Honor becomes that maximum at the end of the turn. Yes, this is a bit of Designer Fiat.
Jeff, Can I add to that please. What if it is a multiplayer game, and the guy who put In time of War into play is removed from the game by province destruction? What happens to the honor gains that happened while In Time of War was in effect?
A: The exact same things that happen when he's not removed. Eliminating a player does nothing to the duration of effects started by her cards. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30 September 2002", 1 Oct 2002 - Q: 2. One player is playing scorpion he has 0 family honor. Another player is playing phoenix he has 10 family honor. The scorpion Player activates Yogo Tjeki and make the phoneix lose 2 honor, the phoenix uses winds truth to redirect the loss to the scorpion player. What happens?
A: The Scorpion player suffers no change to his Family Honor. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 September 2002", 25 Sep 2002 - Q: Now since honor gains do not vanish at the end of my turn, during my opponent's turn he use the basic Yogo Tjeki on me for a 2 pt Honor loss. A: Interesting point. I'll see what the Rules Team has to say. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: I hear proofreading is tech.
...casts a spell or kiho to challenge that Shugena to an.....
What the hell is a Shugena? :)
A: That's the price you pay for getting your preview cards a little early. The file those preview images were produced from was pulled off the assembly line prior to final proofreading. The actual card does not contain this error.
I hope this illustrates our reluctance to issue official rulings prior to product release dates, even ones based on our own press releases. Jeff Alexander, "post for 25 July 2002", 26 Jul 2002 - Q: This is just in need of a clairification:
Is the honor loss caused by Yogo Tjeki considered to be unconditional for the purposes of Shadowlands Strongholds?
A: It is unconditional, for all purposes. "Conditional" means the person it's used against has the option of allowing something else to happen instead. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 March 2002", 30 Mar 2002 - Q: Can you Winds Truth your honor loss then use your Nagori on your opponents honor loss?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 20 February 2002", 21 Feb 2002 - Q: Can you use Yogo Tjeki on yourself if you are above your starting family honor, Winds Truth it to your opponent, then Nagori their honor loss? Even if they are below their starting family honor?
A: Tjeki's loss cares about who it finally applies to after it's finished being redirected (even if it's redirected more than once), not who it's originally aimed at. Wind's Truth-ing Tjeki's loss onto a low-Honor player from another is no different from using Tjeki on that player in the first place. Jeff Alexander, "post for 20 February 2002", 21 Feb 2002 - Q: These questions came up during the course of play last night.
Yogo Tjeki Limited: Bow to make a player lose 2 Honor. This loss cannot reduce a player below his or her starting Honor.
Can Tjeki's ability be used after a player has already been reduced below their starting Honor?
A: No. (Okay, okay. Technical answer: yes, but there is no loss.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 January 2002", 29 Jan 2002 - Q: if my opponent is already below his starting Honor, can I inflict him a 2 honor loss with Yogo Tjeki? if my opponent is already below 10 Family Honor (but higher than me), will my Delicate Negociation inflict him an honor loss?
A: In both cases, the action is legal to take, but your opponent's honor total will not change. See: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_R#Reduce.2Fincrease Zen Faulkes, "Alter History and ignoring reqs", 21 Feb 2011
