- Card Text
- You must include at least one Event in your play deck in order to legally play this Sensei.
After an Event's triggered trait or action resolves, return it to the Province in which it was revealed instead of discarding it normally, unless its effects already put a card there in its place; if it was returned, delay its discarding until the start of its owner's next Action Phase. It will not resolve again, which is not negation, and it may not be discarded by the Discard Dynasty Rulebook ability. - Focus Value

Rulings
- Delayed events may not be voluntarily discarded in the Dynasty Phase. [Netnews, 29 July 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- They may be discarded using other card effects. [Netnews, 19 August 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Only delays Events that actually resolve. [Card text] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Will not delay an Event that was prevented by Avoid Fate or otherwise did not resolve. [Netnews, 30 July 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Affects all Events that "discard" or "destroy" themselves the turn they resolve (e.g., Inheritance). Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Does not affect Events that stay "in play" (e.g., Monsoon, Sacrifices For Our Futures), or that get reshuffled back into the deck upon resolving. [Netnews, 23 August 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Delayed Events do not resolve again next turn. [December 1999] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 144
- Delayed Events do not resolve again next turn. [l5rinfo, 12/99] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 66
- Focus on... Yokuni Sensei: You cannot voluntarily discard a delayed Event, though you can force it out with another card effect, such as Bayushi Aramoro's. Yokuni Sensei delays all Events that "discard" or "destroy" themselves the turn they resolve, including Inheritance. The Sensei does not affect Events that do something more unusual, like physically "stay in play" (not just stay in effect) for multiple turns, or that get reshuffled into the Dynasty deck. Yokuni Sensei only delays Events that resolve. Avoid Fate prevents an Event from resolving. So does the optional rule that each Event can only happen once, when the Event appears a second or later time. The Imperial Herald, Issue 12, p. 33
Rules Q&A
- Q: 2.- Yokuni Sensei. It's stated in the Accumulated rulings that it doesn't affect events which stay in play as "Sacrifices for our future". Does this mean this kind of events do not stay one turn in the provinces, so you replace them as soon as they resolve?
A: That's what it means. For those rare few Events that say the very card "stays in play", the Event formally leaves the Province and gets put out on the table somewhere as part of its own written effect. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 25 March 2001", 30 Mar 2001 - Q: I'm sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned Yokuni sensei...that makes this unclear. What I meant was, if an event "stays in play" does it simply stay in play off to the side, or does it stay in the province (even if Yokuni Sensei is NOT in play). And I take it by these events "trumping" Yokuni Sensei, that means that IF they are normally "in play" off to one side, and someone is playing Yokuni sensei, they still move off to one side and then remain in play, right?
A: I'm leery about giving a general answer to this question, for fear that someone will try to apply a specific answer about the way that a few Events work to the way that all Events work.
So, in regards to Duty to the Empire, Sacrifices for Our Future, and Monsoon, the answer is that yes, they enter play, leaving the province and sitting on the playfield somewhere. Even when Yokuni Sensei is in effect.
This answer would also be applicable to any Events in the future that get printed with some reference to entering/staying in play, but *not* to all Events in general. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for December 27th", 27 Dec 2000 - Q: Question- What is the ruling on events that "Stay in play"? Do they stay in the province, or are they just sort of floating, but "in play". For example, if Monsoon comes up, and someone is playing Yokuni Sensei...
A: As far as I know, there are only three Events that somehow refer to entering play or staying in play. Those Events are Duty to the Empire, Monsoon, and Sacrifices for Our Future. Those Events will trump Yokuni Sensei, but unless an Event says something specifically about entering/staying in play or reshuffles itself as part of its effect, Yokuni Sensei will stick it in the province. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for December 21st", 21 Dec 2000 - Q: Can you BK an event that's being held in the province by Yokuni Sensei, and if so does it resolve again if it's re-revealed later in the game (beyond the turn it was originally revealed in)?
Other question, if I'm playing Sacred Temple of the Phoenix with Iuchiban Sensei, will the stronghold produce 6 gold / 8 gold for a bloodspeaker shugenja?
Thanks!
A: 1. Yes, because Border Keep does not discard the event. It will resolve again as there's no rule against that anymore.
2. Yes, it's producing gold so Iuchiban Sensei boosts it. Jon Palmer, "Yokuni Sensei, Iuchiban Sensei, Sacred Temple of the Phoenix", 30 Oct 2012 - Q: {OBH} inheritance stays in the province with yokuni sensei? does itn ot refill if its destroyed?
A: Inheritance is... weird. Its talk of "destroying" itself seems to imply it "enters play" in some manner, but it doesn't explicitly do that; basically, it doesn't mesh with how other Events of the time resolve and affect play. So, its Oracle text instead makes it make more sense, and thus does make it vulnerable to "sticking" in the Province via Yokuni Sensei, which also agrees with contemporary rulings about their interaction specifically.
