Rules Q&A
- Q: Assuming I have a Sake token on Yoritomo Eihiko can I play Succumb to Vice targeting an opponents unit, use Yoritomo Eihiko on the unit, then bow and dishonor Yoritomo Eihiko to complete paying the costs?
A: Nothing prevents it that I can see. Zen Faulkes, "Succumb to Vice & yoritomo eihiko", 15 Jan 2011 - Q: If this was already answered, I apologize. I did a search for Eihoko + Location and Eihiko + presence and didn't find what I was looking for.
Eihiko reads: Reaction: After you announce an action: Reduce the Gold Cost of a target card (in play) by 2 until the action ends.
My question is this. In a battle, let's say I wanted to use Yoritomo Tatsuhiko to bow a unit, or a Ruthless Advance, or any other action in a battle basically. Can I use Eihiko's reaction if he is home or at another battelfield to lower the gold cost of an enemy card or does he have to be at the current battelfield. I'm assuming that he has to be at the current battelfield, but I wanted some clarification. Thank you much.
A: Eihiko's ability is a Reaction, and hence the Rule of Location does not apply. Alex Jones, "Yoritomo Eihiko - location question.", 18 Oct 2010 - Q: Can i use Eihiko's reaction upon announcing Souhiko's action, reducing the cost of the personality while bringing him in play from my province?
Battle: If Souhiko is opposed: Bring a target face-up Personality from one of your provinces into play at the current battlefield, paying 2 less Gold.
Reaction: After you announce an action: Reduce the Gold Cost of a target card (in play) by 2 until the action ends.
A: Bolding by me.
You may not for the reason that the card Souhiko will target is not in play yet, as he is in your province. Dan Jacobson, "Yoritomo Souhiko and Yoritomo Eihiko", 24 Jan 2010 - Q: in regards to this: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=79255
I believe a more prudent answer might be that Takako doesn't even make a ranged attack vs Gold cost, so the whole question is moot in point, no?
A: That is correct. Of course, I may not be understanding the original question correctly. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Eihiko & Moshi Takako", 21 Sep 2009 - Q: Yorotimo Eihiko Mantis Clan • Magistrate • Extortionist Reaction: After you announce an action: Reduce the Gold Cost of a target card (in play) by 2 until the action ends.
Moshi Takako Mantis Clan • Thunder • Shugenja • Naval • Unique Battle: Bow Takeko, choose a number from 1 to 10, and pay that much Gold: Ranged Attack with strength equal to the number chosen.
Here is the situation:
I have Yorotimo Eihiko x2 in play. I have Moshi Takako in play.
Both of my Eihiko's have targeted and reduced the gold cost of a 4 gold personality who is currently opposing Takako. So, in essence, the 4 gold personality now has a (temporary) 0 gold cost. Is it possible that Takako can Ranged Attack with strength equal to '0' [gold] (3 would be prudent to account for outer walls) and kill the opposing personality? Or does Takako have to use at least 1 gold (4 would be prudent to account for outer walls) to kill the personality?
In other words, if a personality has a zero-rating for the opposed 'test' (probably wrong terminology, sorry if it is) does the test still have to have a greater than zero value to succeed?
I hope I haven't confused you, and I look forward to your reply(ies).

EDIT: OK. I apparently didn't read the card well enough. Takako makes a ranged attack at the strength equal to the amount of gold that she paid. Understood. I also notice (now) that she must pay at least 1 gold to make the ranged attack. Thanks!
A: You cannot pick "Zero" for Moshi Takako's ability, because "zero" is not "a number from 1 to 10" (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Eihiko & Moshi Takako", 21 Sep 2009
