- Card Text
- After you reveal cards in your Provinces at the start of your turn, if this Event is face-up in one of them, each player in turn order starting with you may choose a card in his hand. Discard all chosen cards. If exactly one player's card has the lowest Focus Value of all those cards, he gains a Province to the left of his leftmost province. If exactly one player's card has the highest Focus Value of all those cards, permanently give him +3 maximum hand size, and he draws three cards.

Rules Q&A
- Q: When you choose a card in your hand, do you show it to your opponent? Or does it become face-up only when the card hits the discard pile?
A: The cards are only shown once they are discarded. Both you and the other player choose them without knowing what the other has chosen. Brook Cunningham, "Benefices of the Emperor", 16 Mar 2012 - Q: Each player in turn order starting with you may choose a card in his hand. Discard all chosen cards. If exactly one player's card has the lowest Focus Value of all those cards, he gains a province to the left of his leftmost province. If exactly one player's card has the highest Focus Value of all those cards, permanently increase his maximum hand size by three, and he draws three cards.
So what happens if only one person discards a card? Does he get both effects or neither?
A: If only one player discards a card, it will have both the highest focus value among the discarded cards, and the lowest focus value among the discarded cards. Therefore the player who discarded will receive both benefits. Jon Palmer, "Benefices of the Emperor", 6 Mar 2012
