Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm looking at it from this standpoint: it was ruled that Yoritomo Kitao XP discards Yoritomo Aramasu from play because Yoritomo Aramasu has "Bayushi Aramasu" as a trait.
A: No, that was one line of argument posited by players who favored that ruling. The Rules Team actually decided that Card X should NOT necessarily be considered a copy of Card Y only due to being a different Experience level of Card Y. Kitao was ruled to work that way because there were logical reasons for it to go in either direction, so I settled the matter based on original intent.
The exact original digest with my Kitao/Aramasu ruling can be Jeff Alexander, "post for 9 January 2002", 10 Jan 2003 - Q: When you use the Yoritomo Kitao open action to pay 3 gold to allow a unit to move assing during the cavalry segment; do you have to tell or target which unit you wish to use this action with?
A: You must target one unit each time you use the action. Jeff Alexander, "post for 16 September 2002", 17 Sep 2002 - Q: So if I am willing to give up using the Favor I could Name say Yoritomo Kitao as my Wind and support her for Empress?
A: Not unless a high-ranking Story Team member announces it beforehand. I mean, sure, you *could* say that, but it will just be recorded as "no Wind". Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: This rulling makes sense in the storyline and anyway I will do with it. Just one little question, can I overlay Yoritomo Kitao exp if Yoritomo Aramasu is in play without discarding him ?
A: Here the rules are quite clear: Yes, because overlaying Kitao doesn't count as bringing her into play. Jeff Alexander, "post for 13 March 2002", 14 Mar 2002 - Q: Both of Yoritomo Kitao (Experienced)'s effects that apply to Bayushi Aramasu also apply to Yorotimo Aramasu. This is a REVERSAL.
Well, was it really necessary, I mean it is not like the Mantis had a great pool of personality to choose from. Anyway we'll deal with that.
A: It's the price you pay for having impartial rulings. I don't CARE how much this will help or hurt Mantis Clan players. What matters is what the card says, how other cards that are worded like it work, and what it was supposed to do in the first place -- usually in that order. Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 March 2002", 13 Mar 2002 - Q: Does this mean that Yoritomo Aramasu may still enter play while Yoritomo Kitao is in play? I know that she doesn't discard Yoritomo Aramasu, but I'd just like a little clarification.
The Rules Team is currently working on this one.
A: So, Jeff...any ruling yet on this? Jeff Alexander, "post for 20 February 2002", 21 Feb 2002 - Q: In one of Jeff earlier posts he implied that Yoritomo Aramasu survives Yoritomo Kitao XPs coming in to play effect. I would just like someone to clarify exactly what happens in the following situations:
1) I have Bayushi Aramasu xp 0, Yoritomo Aramasu and Kitao xp 0 in play. I then bring Kitao xp into play.
A: Bayushi Aramasu is discarded, as per Kitao's card text. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 November 2001", 8 Nov 2001
