Rules Q&A
- Q: Subject: CE and Experienced cards
Example: CE Yoritomo Naizen(Mantis Clan~Clan Champion~Samurai~Loyal~Commander~Experienced 3~Unique) is CE legal but Yoritomo Naizen from Samurai Edition is the Experienced 2 version but per the rule book is not CE legal because it has the Samurai print on it.
I was just wondering why put the rule in regards to using Experienced personalites in the CE rule book when pervious editions are no longer legal. I was confused because it states "When you overlay, you do not need to meet Honor Requirements, but you do need to meet other requirements and restrictions, including “Loyal”" which to me shows certain cases like Diagotsu.
Unless this is read wrong :All cards in the play deck (including the Stronghold) must be Celestial Edition legal, having the Celestial Edition icon [illus?] in the lower left hand corner of their most recent printing (MRP). In all L5R formats, cards are considered to have the stats and text of their MRP in English.
To me and the group I play with states that only CE cards are legal if they have the icon and only if they have the icon.
A: There is no "grandfather" clause for earlier versions of Experienced personalities. There could well be Experienced cards in later sets, so a rule is needed. Zen Faulkes, "CE and Experienced cards", 13 Jul 2009 - Q: I'm asking for clarification on the text "if that Personality has not straightened this battle." Does that mean during this battle anywhere, or specifically while present at this battlefield?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_B#Battle: "A battle is a process in time, as opposed to a battlefield which is a location." Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Naizen and Ordered Retreat", 6 Apr 2008 - Q: Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2): My Yoritomo Naizen XP2 is at the current battlefield. There are NO enemy units opposing him. Can I target and move one of my opponent's Personalities from his home to the current battlefield? Is Naizen this required "enemy" towards moved Personality?
A: No, and no.
http://rules.l5r.com/Physically_marked_ ... es#Control: "A card’s text (such as, “Lose 3 Honor” or “You can not take Political actions”) is to be read from the perspective of its controller while the card is in play."
From the perspective of Naizen's controller, Naizen's army is not the enemy army. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2) III", 16 Sep 2007 - Q: Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2) Battle: Even if Naizen is bowed: Move a target Personality to the current battlefield if there are any units in the enemy army there. If this moved Naizen, straighten him.
Just to clarify:
My Yoritomo Naizen XP2 is at the current battlefield. There are enemy units opposing him. Can I target and move one of my opponent's Personalities from his home to the current battlefield?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2) II", 12 Aug 2007 - Q: My Yoritomo Naizen XP2 is at the current battlefield. There is no-one opposing him. Can I target and move one of my opponent's Personalities from his home to the current battlefield?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/Physically_marked_ ... es#Control: "A card’s text (such as, 'Lose 3 Honor' or 'You can not take Political actions') is to be read from the perspective of its controller while the card is in play."
And "enemy units," too. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2)", 12 Aug 2007
