Rules Q&A
- Q: Yasuki Tsujiken 3F/4C -(HR)/10(GC)/0(PH) Crab Clan • Courtier • Crime Boss • Merchant Reaction: After Tsujiken enters play, target a Holding: Until Tsujiken leaves play, after each time its controller bows it, he loses 1 Honor. Open: Bow Tsujiken and target a Holding: Straighten it. You may bow it if its base Gold Cost is 4 or lower.
Yoritomo Tarao 4F/3C -(HR)/8(GC)/1(PH) Mantis Clan • Samurai • Extortionist • Magistrate • Naval Open: Pay 2 Gold: Choose a player. He targets one of his unbowed Personalities or Holdings or a card in his hand. If the targeted card is in his hand, discard it. Otherwise, bow it.
ok, back again...this time i have a question about Tsujiken's Reaction and Tarao's Open action... if i target a holding with Tsujiken's Reaction and my opponent decides to target that seem holding when i target my opponent with Tarao's Open action, do they lose the honor becasue they chose that holding to bow (and it's technically the controller bowing the holding because of their choice), or is it me bowing the holding so they don't lose the honor? Thanks in advance.
A: EDIT: After discussion, this ruling is reversed. Since Tarao's ability causes the holding to become bowed, he is the source of the bowing, rather than the targeted player. Therefore, Tsujiken's honor loss will not trigger. Jon Palmer, "Yasuki Tsujiken & Yoritomo Tarao", 22 Jul 2012 - Q: Poor good Yoritomo Singh XP2 has been targeted by Firm Censure, meaning the next action he performs will have its effects negated. Then player announces an action with a gold cost, for example Yoritomo Tarao (any other action with a gold cost would do here)
1) Can the Mantis player announce Yoritomo Singh XP2's reaction so the Firm Censure is "used", then try to pay the cost with something else? I'm assuming this is a yes, since he could always overpay it any way. 2) Can the Mantis player use Yoritomo Singh XP2's reaction, have it fail, then pay no gold cost at all and have Tarao's action fail even though he has other means of paying the 2 gold? (Ie calling that the payment has been interferred with and choosing not to pay it as a result; essentially as a free way of getting rid of the Firm Censure ongoing effect) 3)Can the Mantis player announce Tarao's action if he has no other way of paying the gold cost, or would the Rule of Good Faith make it illegal since he knew in advance he couldn't pay it?
Thank you in advance.
A: 1. Yes, for the reason you cited. 2. Yes, for the reason you cited. 3. The Good Faith Rule does take into account game state, and therefore Terao's action could not be taken if the player has no other means of producing the cost. Jon Palmer, "Yoritomo Singh XP2 and Firm Censure", 26 Feb 2012
