- Erratum: Reads, "Yoritomo Tokaro 4F/2C -HR 7G 0PH Mantis Clan Bushi. Pirate. Naval. Raid Battle: If Tokaro is attacking during a Raid battle, bow him: Target a Holding controlled by the Defender and a Personality who has not been opposed this attack. Lose 2 Honor. - If his ability targets a Holding that his or her controller cannot control, the Defender must destroy the targeted Personality, because it is known that the transfer of control effect will fail. [See Decisions; ZF, web, 19 February 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 134
Rules Q&A
- Q: So Tokaro lets me gain control of my opponents holding if he wants to save his person. If I target an attached fortification with his ability and gain control of it, what happens?
A: You now control a Fortification attached to someone else's Province. It doesn't go anywhere, but you now are in charge of its abilities, Gold-producing traits, and its text is read from your perspective, not its owner's (references on it to "you" or "another player" are now YOU in the former case and no longer the latter, for example). Brook Cunningham, "Yoritomo Tokaro and Fortifications", 25 Aug 2014 - Q: (S)ome one who used Yoritomo Tokaro and targeted my Daikoku and said because he had his he couldn't steal it so I had no option but to destroy my own (Personality.)
A: Here. Zen Faulkes, "Another Misdirection question...", 31 Mar 2005 - Q: I am sure of the answer but was disputed over it today in Yoritomo Tokaro's Blow up Pers. or Get holding and send home bowed ability, if I target an unnoppossed peronsality at home and one of his holdings would the personality bow, assuming he gives me the holding, cause the bowing is a part of the send home?
A: Let us look at the card text:
"The Defender may give you permanent control of the Holding. If he does, move the target Personality home and bow him; otherwise, destroy the Personality after this attack ends."
That is not the same thing as "move him home, bowed."
It doesn't fall under the "sent home, bowed is inseparable" clause in the Rulebook.
The same thing goes for Weigh the Cost. The effects are independent of one another. You'll bow even if you don't move. Martin Lund, "Yoritomo Tokaro and bowing", 26 Mar 2005 - Q: Can someone breakdown what the Summary of other rulings is?
A: There were a few specific card rulings that are now mentioned as examples, like Otomo Ambassadors. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Tokaro and Singular holdings", 23 Feb 2005 - Q: The Defender may give you permanent control of the Holding.
A: That's the entire beginning and ending of the decision: Do you give it to him or not?
The effects that follow are not part of the decision. They are further effects of the Action that just happen to be conditional based on the outcome of that decision. Martin Lund, "Yoritomo Tokaro and Singular holdings", 23 Feb 2005 - Q: Can you please break this down?
A: It's the difference between a new effect and an existing effect ending. In one case, a card is supposed to be given. In another, a card is supposed to be returned. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Tokaro and Singular holdings", 23 Feb 2005 - Q: If tokaro targets a personality and a singular holding, of which you already control a copy, does the opponent have to kill the personality (by refusing, albeit unwillingly, to giving you the holding) as you cannot take control of the holding, or can the opponent choose to give you the holding and Tokaro's effect 'fizzles' as it were, leaving the personality alive?
A: Rules Archive, General Rules, Decisions. You can't pick an option you know will fail. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Tokaro and Singular holdings", 19 Feb 2005
