Rules Q&A
- Q: Sorry for such a simple question, but being out of this for a while, I'm unsure as to the answer.
Back in Jade, IIRC, an experienced character showing up in a set meant that the less experienced versions became Jade Legal. DOes this also apply to experienced characters in Gold, such as Yoritomo Yukue Exp?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 June 2002", 27 Jun 2002 - Q: I'm playing with the Yasuki Palaces SH, and have declared Crane. I bring out Yoritomo Yukue Exp. and during my next action phase I use her ability(Limited: Once per game, bow Yukue as a cost and name a clan other than your own. For the rest of the game while Yukue is in play, Personalities from that clan will join you for 2 less Gold.), and the clan I name is Mantis.
Later, I reveal a face down card during my events phase, it is the event Alliance(Select a clan other than your own. For the remainder of the game, you may recruit Personalities from that clan for 2 fewer gold.), and again I name Mantis.
Now, do all my Mantis Personalities come into play for 4 less gold?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 January 2002", 16 Jan 2002 - Q: Hey there,
Yoritomo Yukue exp states : "name a Clan other than your own" to get a discount benefit on said clan.
Since Gold Edition and the differenciation of Clan and Faction, this raises some questions :
A: There is no difference, really. "Faction" means what "Clan" used to: an alignment listed in the rulebook. The term was changed so we would no longer have to say nonsensical things like, "Crab Clan is a Clan, and Naga is a Clan, but Fox Clan isn't a Clan." Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 November 2001", 27 Nov 2001 - Q: 2. Can each Ninja Shapeshifter copy Yoritomo Yukue exp's ability and use it once?
A: Each can copy it and use it. But due to this ruling:
] Only the copied ability, tokens created by it, and effects whose ] durations depend on the originating card (for example, "until this ] card straightens") disappear at the end of the turn. [Rulebook, DW, ] 3/11/97]
each of the Shapeshifters' effects wear off when they lose the copied ability at the end of the turn. By an even older ruling, though, they also forget they've used it and can re-copy and re-use it again on each of your turns. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 19 January 2001", 23 Jan 2001 - Q: This is the last time, I swear. I don't have English as my natural language, but that sounds a bit off to me. Was it supposed to be 'but', or maybe simply not existed at all?
When I read it in my mind it sounds like someone with the flu, you know? Like, stuffy nose.

A: That's a typo, it should be 'but'. We'll get it corrected. Thanks for the catch! Jon Palmer, "Old Cards' Text", 4 Jan 2014
