Rules Q&A
- Q: When I play against a ratling player, who has in play 3 shinbone warriors of which one of them is dishonored, and he also controls a Yotsu Dojo. He then uses the ability on the dishonored Shinbone Warrior and sacrifices other two warriors. (H)ow much honor does he gain from reaction on yotsu dojo(?)

Four. Still. Zen Faulkes, "Yotsu Dojo and Shinbone Warrior", 19 Jun 2007 - Q: So not specifically onyx but 2 questions https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=9675 Yotsu dojo can be used on your opponents personality to gain honor if they meet the other criteria correct? And the "gain 4 honor" effect would take precedence over the rulebook rehonoring a personality if used on your own as card wording trumps rulebook?
A: Yes. It doesn't say "your", it says "a".
I think maybe you're misunderstanding the ability by asking this? Yotsu Dojo's ability is not performed, nor does it target, so it can't rehonor anyone. Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 23 Sep 2026 - Q: [LE] (and [OBH] if it's somehow different): When does Yotsu Dojo check for dishonor - do actions that dishonor the personality qualify for the 4 honor gain or must it be dishonorable beforehand?
A: (Replying to a player: "But if it's a cost you can?") If @kempy_nezumi is correct about his first answer, then also no. If the parameters of performing are locked/checked prior to effects resolution, they would also be before costs are paid, because the performer can be determined at announcement/targeting, both of which occur before costs in LE and OBH.
I was sort of hoping he'd dig up a FAQ or old forum post that said for sure on both counts, though. 🙂 Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 15 Dec 2025
