Rules Q&A
- Q: my question regards the combining of range attacks of items and the Personalities they are attached to.
Take for example Ryouko the Phoenix favourite immortal rooster. He has a Yumi of Fire attached. Can I combine the Yumi's Range Attack with the innate range attack of Ryouko? If not why?
A: You'd need to combine the Ryouko's attach with the first RA of the Yumi's action, since it makes 2 consecutive attacks, and you have to declare Combined Ranged Attacks when the Action is announced, before targeting. Martin Lund, "Rules for 10 July 2004", 11 Jul 2004 - Q: 2 - Can I play the Yumi of Fire as a battle action if there is only one target for my ranged attack (assuming this target is weak enough to die due to the first ranged attack) ?
A: Yes, for two reasons.
A.) You can drop the Yumi and opt to not use the Ability. It says, "you may immediately gain an additional Battle action to use the following ability" - operative word there is "may."
B.) Consecutive Ranged Attacks are targeted one-at-a-time. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 98) To take an Action that produces Consecutive Ranged Attacks, you need only have a legal target for the FIRST of the Consecutive RA. Martin Lund, "Rules for 17 June 2004", 21 Jun 2004 - Q: Let's say I have a personality with Yumi of Fire and lots of followers capable of doing the action "battle: ranged 2 attack."
When I perform the Yumi of Fire Ranged attack, will I only be able to combine with the first one only, both, or not at all?
Thanks in advance.
A: You can only combined attacks when they could both be legally declared individually (page 90). Ergo, you can combine a "normal" Ranged Attack with the first Ranged Attack in a consecutive series, but not the 2nd or later ones. Martin Lund, "Combining consecutive Ranged attacks", 12 Apr 2005 - Q: Can i use the CotW ability to make a ranged with a personality without bow, and then combine with yumi of fire and make a the first ranged attack combined with yumi+personality ranged.
A: Looks that way. Zen Faulkes, "Yumi of Fire and Castle of the Wasp", 9 Mar 2005
