My opponent plays Deadly Ground. I have Ikoma Shuji in play.
Can I use the battle action range four to destroy the terrain?
If I can do the ranged 4, can I discard a card instead of destroying the deadly ground?
A: Uhh, no? I would argue that you can take Ikoma Shuji's action because it's a single action with multiple effects, one of which destroys Deadly Ground. You wouldn't be able to pick the non-Deadly Ground-destroying option, because it would have been done in bad faith and the entire Ikoma Shuji action would be invalid, so it couldn't happen.
