Rules Q&A
- Q: I realise that Natsumi and Way of the Scorpion are under discussion, but I think for a reason other than this (if I am incorrect please just add this to the other thread).
[You are; topics merged. -- MB2001]
Way of the Scorpion has the effect "Look at two cards in his hand or Provinces". Natsumi's ability interacts with effects that show other cards, but unlike many other actions, Way of the Scorpion does not show cards. Do these two cards interact at all? If they do, is this because Natusmi looks for synonyms of 'show' in abilities (look, reveal etc): a 'plain English' approach?
A: Per the newest CR,
SHOW When an effect asks a player to show a card, he or she displays the face of a face–down card to all other players, then return it to its face–down state. In a two-player game, this is the same effect as looking at another player’s card, but from the other player’s perspective. However, this is not the same as revealing, which keeps the card face-up.
In any game, a reference that depends on showing a card also includes “look” effects.
So these cards do now work in conjunction. Jon Palmer, "natsumi + way of the scorpion?", 14 Feb 2015 - Q: Regarding this viewtopic.php?p=1438484&sid=8415ae4ecc3b9aeca2ca48f777900fd9#p1438484
Could you please explain your reasoning?
The trigger of Natsumi is "After the action shows a Battle strategy...". Why should this trigger drop off after a card, be it a Battle Strategy or not, was shown. I could understand that the first card being a Battle Strategy would drop the trigger. But if the first card is not a Battle Strategy, I don't see a reason.
My additional problem with the ruling: how do I tell which card is shown first? Wouldn't they be revealed simultaneously?
Edit: I think part of my question became meaningless by your Edit from card to Battle Strategy, as this now implies to me that at least if the "first" shown card is not a Battle Strategy, the trigger is still there for the "second" card. While i still couldn't figure out how there is an order of those cards shown.
A: Well, you are correct about only Battle Strategies dropping the trigger. I got tripped up by the terminology used in the asking of the question, and have corrected my answer above.
As for the simultaneousness of the triggers, I was still correct that only one will trigger the effect; the active player chooses the order in which simultaneous triggers are "seen" by the effect. Brook Cunningham, "natsumi + way of the scorpion?", 4 Sep 2014
