Bookshelf
Open in Oracle of the VoidDiscord · Report a problem · Patreon · YouTube
The Bookshelf (the open book in the menu bar) holds the game's books, to read and search online, on one or more shelves, shown as tabs across the top: Rulebooks and, for Legend of the Five Rings, Newsletters. The site remembers the shelf you were on.
Rulebooks
The rulebooks, FAQs and rules sheets, in order of release. The bar above them narrows the shelf by type (complete rules, learn to play, addendum, special formats, other ways to play, floor rules, rulings), by tag (such as Base set or Last complete rules in arc), and by arc. The site remembers your choice; Clear filters shows the whole shelf again. A book opens at the page you last read.
Newsletters
Newsletters and magazines about the game, such as AEG's Imperial Herald (1995–2014), in order of release. Each shelf has its own bar of types and tags, and remembers its own choice. They're read just like the rulebooks.
Reading
- Turn pages with the arrows at either side, a click or tap on the left or right of the page, a swipe, the arrow keys or the mouse wheel. Home and End go to the first and last page.
- Type a page number in the page box, or drag the slider to flip through.
- One page / two pages shows pages side by side on a wide screen.
- Full screen (or F) uses the whole screen.
- Some books link inside themselves (the Comprehensive Rules): click or tap an entry in the contents, or a "see …" reference in the text, to go there. Back returns to where you were.
Zooming
Zoom with + and − (the buttons or the keys), Ctrl and the mouse wheel, or by pinching. A double-click or double-tap zooms in there and back out. Drag a zoomed page around. Fit the page (or 0) goes back to the whole page.
Searching a book
Search this book finds words in it and lists the pages they're on, marking them on the page. The browser's own find (Ctrl+F) works on the pages shown too.
Contents lists the book's chapters, and Pages shows small pictures of every page.
Copying text and linking
- Select text (or T) lets you select words on the page to copy, like any web page.
- Copy the text of this page (or C) copies the whole page.
- Copy a link copies a link to the page shown, or, with text selected, to that text: the
link opens the book there, with the text marked. The link holds only the selection's first and last
few words (
first words.*last words), so even a long selection makes a short link. In the Comprehensive Rules, a link to selected text also names its section, like#sec=VII.3.9.E(section VII.3.9, step E), so it keeps working when an update moves the rules to another page. To link a section without selecting anything, click once in its text in select mode (that leaves a cursor) and then Copy a link. - Section links: add
,#sec=<number>after a book in the address bar to open it at that section: a chapter (VII), a section (VII.3.9), a lettered step in it (VII.3.9.E) or a glossary entry (T2). Spaces work too (VII 3.9 E).
From a card
