Phoenix Clan Strategy Article for Thunderous Acclaim By Chris Braun | May 29, 2015 Greetings, Shugenja and Samurai of the Phoenix Clan! The time has come to draw back the veil on the new cards in Thunderous Acclaim, the newest expansion for the L5R CGG releasing in July, that will benefit your clan's decks. In the Kotei season thus far, Phoenix has been one of the "tent pole" decks, with their "Honor Rocket". If you can't deal with Phoenix's fast Honor deck, you'll watch it speed past 40 Honour and leave you in the dust. If Mantis wasn't doing so well this season, I definitely think that we would have seen more Phoenix victories with this deck! The side effect of Phoenix Honor being so good is that the two Twenty Festivals themes for Phoenix—Water and Earth Shugenja—have taken a back seat. So has the Fire theme from the Ivory Edition arc. That's too bad, because while they might not all be top tier, they are certainly fun decks to play! Phoenix Earth Shugenja continues to broaden their Personality base ready with two interesting additions. Asako Kazuki doesn't have any Force, but has a very powerful Fear action for his cost and can stand in front of an attacking army very well with his immunity to Melee and Ranged Attacks and the Resilient keyword. Asako Nashimoto also shares Resilient with his clan-mate and brings a sizable 4F to the table. Both are Magistrates and have 3PH, continuing a direction started in Twenty Festivals. My personally-favourite Phoenix theme, Fire Shugenja, gets a nice boost with the addition of Isawa Hibana Experienced, while Shiba Hano works well with the Stronghold and is a new polearm-wielding Yojimbo that protects all those various Elemental Shugenja. The Phoenix Water Shugenja theme also gets a couple of new Personalities. Isawa Nobuo is Expendable, and also gets more powerful thanks to the new Compassion keyword if you are down a Province or are facing those spiritually-corrupt Moto of the Unicorn Clan! Isawa Fujisawa is the other new a
